Johnathan,
I just recently upgraded to Ubuntu 11.10 and am more than slightly nutty
now because of frustrations with using Firefox and Thunderbird. It's
better since the upgrades I downloaded and installed yesterday or the
day before, but...
One workaround that provides enough of a solution for me to get some
work done is to open up the Orca preferences for whichever of those
applications I am trying to use (Insert + CTRL + Space). Then I simply
do Shift + TAB once to reach theOkay button, hit it to reload the Orca
user settings for Thunderbird or Firefox, ALT + TAB to switch to another
window or to just stay in the same window if that's all I have open and
Orca will start to behave more normally.
It is not a perfect solution, and I still run into trouble with the
focus problems others have mentioned, but it's getting me by while the
problem is being addressed by our hard-working accessibility miracle
workers.
Hope this helps!

Hello list,
I'm hoping someone can help me with this little problem. I have gnome
3.2 running on ubuntu 11.10 and I think it is great! I should mention
I'm running gnome-shell. The only problem I'm having is when I open
firefox and thunderbird the programs open but I can't get orca to read
the screen when either of these 2 programs are opened. I try pressing
alt and tab to switch to a different window but that doesn't work. I
asked my wife if these programs were open and she said yes they were. So
my question is what can I do to get Orca to notice the window that
firefox and thunderbird open in. It seems that everything else I tried
worked such as libre office writer and gedit along with gpodder. I could
also get into the home folder and move around and open the terminal and
type in commands. So my only problem is the firefox and thunderbird
issue. Thanks for your time and help.
