Try adding/uncommenting the following settings in the
[daemon] section of your /etc/X11/gdm/custom.conf:

AddGtkModules=true
# By default, these are the accessibility modules.
GtkModulesList=canberra-gtk-module:gail:atk-bridge

the canberra-gtk-module is not accessibility relevant at all, but gail
and atk-bridge are, at least with at-spi 1.

The changes will get active with your next Gdm restart.
