This sounds like either a Gecko bug or something very odd in at-spi2 or atk. Can you please do any of *1 file a bug on bugzilla.mozilla.org linking to a crash report on crash-stats.mozilla.com you might need need a thunderbird build from mozilla.org for the crash reporter if Arch disables it. *2 just provide a link to a crash report on crash-stats.mozilla.com *3 just provide a stack with symbols using gdb if arch has packages that will give you symbols for thunderbird.
Thunderbird yet. I have been in Firefox 7 lately and generally things are real snappy in performance but I still have the problem of tabbing not always going to the next proper link after navigating down to part of a page. But that's Firefox but has similar parts shared by Thunderbird.
hopefully that will get fixed in firefox 10 along with a zillion other focus issues. thanks! Trev

When I open thunderbird, everything appears fine. I can navigate, delete, etc. If I open a message though, any consecutive message I open after that, I have no speech access to, unless I use orca --replace. Luckily, I have written a small C program to do this for me, and bound it to ctrl+alt+o. Again, not sure if it's orca 3.2, thunderbird 7, or a combo of the two. I would appreciate comment from anyone running Ubuntu 11.10, if they are experiencing this problem as well.
