Hi Hank,

You might want to read the Orca wiki. There are detailed instructions
on there how to configure Orca and GDM so you have a talking login.
Once you do that you can easily switch back and forth between Gnome
and Unity desktops. You don't need sighted assistance once you get
accessibility enabled for the login screen.

orca doesn't speak at log on so am unsure if there is a way around this.
