Re: [orca-list] Unity trouble

Hi Jeremy,
Control + Alt + Tab only takes me to the desktop.
That is the trouble, I cannot get to the menus.

How are you getting to this list of folders in a tree view?

I have a slightly different issue. I go to File -> Subscribe ... where I
can choose the account I want to work with and then I have a page with
the folders in a tree view. I don't see any status next to the tree
view, but there's a subscribe and an unsubscribe button. Just to be
sure, I went through and subscribed to each folder I wanted to subscribe
to and unsubscribed to each folder I didn't want to subscribe to. I
couldn't tell from that page or tree view if the requests took, but
everything seems to be working, so I'm assuming it did.

If you're getting to a different view, I'd love to take a look. If I
learn anything, I can report back.

All this somehow works correctly in ubuntu.
I'm not sure if pulse can lock up the sound card, but I noticed that
switching from the gui terminal where pulse is running to the text
terminal, or switching users, has the effect like stopping sound on the
previous session until it's restored.
I don't know pulseaudio so I can't tell why it does not work there.

Yes. gdm comes up talking.
Deedra logs in -- the login prompt is perfectly accessible).
The ps utility shows me that orca, speech-dispatcher, and pulseaudio
are all running under her account.
The "gdm" user account also has a running pulseaudio and a running
speech-dispatcher. However,
Deedra has no sound.
It is a pulseaudio problem, as far as I can tell.
Has gdm's pulseaudio instance locked the sound card, somehow? That is
how it seems to me.

That takes me to the same place I got to using File -> Subscribe ...

use the subscribe and unsubscribe buttons and assume they're doing their

you are. Note that I'm running Thunderbird 3.1.10 and Orca 3.1.2.

Hi All,
I downloaded Ubuntu 11.4 and installed it onto a thumb drive, and I did not
get the accessibility option when booting, so I had to just have someone
sighted select boot to live Ubuntu for me.
Then I ran Orca from the alt + F2 window, and logged out and back in, and
all would be normal, but I cannot access the menus like usual.I did alt + F2
again and ran terminal, and I don't know if it works, because it knocks out
Orca.
* Does Ubuntu 11.4 work with Orca?
This Unity desktop thing seems bad.
Is there a command I can run to call up a regular desktop/Gnome session?
Thanks

Glen,
I am using unity with Ubuntu 11.04. There are a few bugs, but overall,
it works well. To fix your accessible installation, at the login screen,
press enter on your user name, then press alt+CTRL+tab to get to the
panel. Tab over 4 times, and expand the combo box. Select Ubuntu
classic, then press enter. Next press alt+CTRL+tab to get back to the
password screen. Type your password and press enter. After a minute or
so, you should be booted into a classic gnome session.
I hope this helps.

Thanks,
Jeremy
