Re: [orca-list] Upgrading Orca

I checked in /usr/bin. There is a link, all right, but it redirects to
orca 2.32.0 too.

I think you're right about Ubuntu 11.04. But I could easily (or so I
hope) install Gnome 3 on it. On my actual version I think it's not
possible... wtihout a lot of problems, anyway.

Thanks for help

I wonder if your new Orca is ending up in some place like /usr/bin
instead of /usr/local/bin.

Also, it's my understanding that Ubuntu 11.04 doesn't come with Gnome 3.
It comes with Gnome 2 and unity. I guess you may be able to install
Gnome 3 though.

I don't use Vinux so maybe here's the difference. Anyway, I tried to
build and install a few orca versions. For the time being, I didn't
get any errors compiling (make; make install). But I don't have any
obvious result, either.

My orca link in /usr/local/bin still redirect to orca v 2.32.0. My
running version is still 2.32.0, which is not surprising.

Perhaps an error occured, that I didn't see, and the link had not been
replaced because the new Orca version I tried to install wasn't
steady. I really don't know.

I plan to upgrade my Ubuntu to 11.04 Natty and use Gnome 3. I will
have less problems by then, I guess. But I would like to update Orca
without upgrading all my system :D , if possible, that is.

I'm also running Ubuntu 10.10 with Gnome 2, but I've upgraded Orca to
Orca 3.1.4. I think it's officially called Orca 3.1.4 xDesktop. I'm
actually running Vinux 3.1, and I upgraded Orca by enabling the Vinux
test repository and upgrading Orca.

Hi everyone,

I'm running a Ubuntu 10.10 session with Gnome 2. My Orca version is
2.32.0. I just saw that this version is not really up to date... not
at all would be a better way to put it.

This would be great to update this Orca version. But I read that I
needed Gnome 3 in order to run the last Orca versions.

Well, maybe I'm wrong. I'm a pretty new user on Linux and I still miss
a lot of stuffs.

My question is : do I need to have Gnome 3 for running the latest
version of Orca ? Do I need to upgrade my actual Ubuntu version to
11.04 in order to have Gnome 3 installed ? And how could I, as simply
as could be, do these things ?

Thanks for your answers. Please excuse my English, still making a lot
of mistakes!
