Hello,
Yes I think being able to post extra messages into the debug would be
useful. Remember you will get a whole bundle of events associated to the
action of inserting the user message, therefore it may be worth
considering how you can minimise these (e.g. might it be cleaner in the
debug if it was a key stroke to insert a predetermined message rather
than having a dialog open, etc).
As for the timing information, I opened the enhancement request 634460
which contains an initial patch which is more to start discussion rather
than be the solution (IE. that patch won't allow easy turning on and off
time information, is time the best module for this job, etc).

Hi Steve.
Insert user messages on the fly to the debug log is very useful.

I also like the idea of time stamps in the debug log.
Also, I asked a while back on the list about adding a feature where we
could insert user messages on the fly to the debug log. But I never
got a single answer if anyone would want. I've not been seeing much
feedback to some of these questions lately. I would like to add this
feature because when one generates a huge long debug output file, one
can easily get lost in there and not know where a given segment of the
debug session begins. I'm thinking of adding a dialog like the Find
dialog to prompt for user text and it could be inserted into the debug
log at that point in time and then go on with my testing. Since I
never heard any objections, I think I will open a RFE bug and proceed
with the idea. I just find the debug out file to end up too
combersome at times and then I can't find where certain events are.
I also think it might be an easier path to get into coding changes to
Orca.

Hi.
I think that is a good idea.

Hello,
This is something which I had wondered about for a little, why
does orca not have time information in its debug messages? Many
other applications do (eg. the java logging API I think includes
time information by default, speech-dispatcher's log files contain
time information, etc).
Why I am asking this now is that I think the addition of it may
have helped me work out one of the slow points of orca (for those
curious when navigating the thunderbird message list, bug
#633104).
If people feel this may be of use in orca shall I send my patch?
