Re: [orca-list] firefox accessibility now a suspense with orca.

Hi, Krishnakant. In short, FF 3.6 includes a rewrite of the
focus/caret code. The biggest change impacting us seems to be a
restriction that disallows "non-focusable" objects like paragraphs to
ever get the focus. The first impact of this is that in FF 3.6, Orca
was unable to set the caret in a paragraph, because the Firefox code
just called "take focus" to do this, which no longer works. I've
fixed this, with a patch that is pending review, but it's not included
in any Firefox release yet. It's available now to Vinux users.

Once this bug is fixed, structural navigation seems to work well, but
you have to turn off "grab focus on object" in the Firefox Orca
preferences tab. The next most annoying bug for me is that when I
switch to Firefox with Alt+Tab, often Orca doesn't know Firefox has
the focus. This is because Firefox is suppose to fire a focus event
as soon as it gets an activate-window event. If the caret is in a
paragraph or other "non-focusable" element, then that event never
comes, and Orca leaves it's "locus of focus" on the previously
selected application, and refuses to read what's going on in Firefox.

hello all,
Off late I have got some real interesting behaviour with Orca.
I have 2 versions of firefox running on my system, version 3.5 and 3.6 from
Ubuntu repository.
the best part is that some times the same page with ff3.6 works very well
and some times it is totally impossible to manage the same page with the
same version of ff.
I know that the latter behaviur has been reported and known as a bug/. But
what interests me is the inconsistantly good or bad performance.
take google for example.
I have consistant behavior under ff3.5 but some times 3.6 is extremly fast
and smooth on the same page and some times it is extremly irritating.
one thing which I did before writing this email is first ran 3.5 and surffed
the net.  after that when I run 3.6,  all goes well.
what could be the reason for this suspense>
happy hacking.
Krishnakant.
