Re: [orca-list] How do I get Orca to re-read a row of cells in a table?

Hi Bill.

I've been working on the gnome-app-install application to make it more
accessible. Orca now sees the checkboxes changing, and even reads
them when a cell with a checkbox toggles. However, the table has
three columns, and generally users have the focus on the middle one
that has the name of the package. There is a hack in
gnome-app-install to toggle the checkbox when the user activates the
middle cell with space or enter. Is there some easy way for me to
indicate to Orca that the whole row of cells should be re-spoken on
this event?

I don't have that app in front of me at the moment, however.... Is that
definitely the desired behavior? Normally when the user toggles a
checkbox, what is expected is just the state change to be announced.
Were Orca to present the full row when the state of a checkbox is
toggled -- especially if the user already knows the full row contents
because he/she:

1. Had already enabled the table setting in Orca to speak the full row
with focus when the row changes, and

2. Just arrowed into that row prior to pressing space or enter

That user might file a bug because Orca is speaking unnecessary
information.

Likewise, if the user had enabled the table setting in Orca to speak
just the cell with focus when the row changes, instead preferring a
detailed whereAmI when the full row was desired, I suspect hearing the
full row as the result of toggling a checkbox in the row with focus
would come as a surprise.

That said, again, I don't have the app in front of me. Perhaps I should
before giving you advice on it. ;-) Still... Something worth thinking
about....
