Re: [orca-list] How can I change Orca settings globally?

Bill, if you would like modify Orca default settings with Will suggested src/orca/settings.py file, you need make a patched gnome-orca package with vinux/vinux-lucid repository. But, if the new maintenanced Orca version is publicated (for example 2.30-2, 2.30-3), you need again do the patching, and need upload again the modifyed package. Sure this is good ydea? You always would like local patching before upload new maintenance version package?

Why not put a preconfigured .orca folder with /etc/skel and /var/lib/gdm folder? I am not full understanding why you would like this global ydea, but if you put for example a preconfigured .orca folder with setted speech rate 50, setted speech pitch with 3.0 with /etc/skel and /var/lib/gdm folder, this is a good starting point with users. For example, when I do live CD's I always using this purpose the preconfigured .orca folder, and setting following values (not I write all changed value):
Speech rate: 50
Pitch: 3.0
Show tooltips checkbox: checked
Presetted structural navigation commands with Firefox, Thunderbird, etc application settings
Disabled some keyboard echo setting.
For example the hungarian BeLin users like this method since two years. If the user not like the 50 speech rate, enough to change this value, but all important Orca function is already default configured, he don't need do the full configuration (structural navigation keybindings, mnemonics spokening, speak child position etc). Oldest time I not want applying local patching by package to package, I choosed this method because simplest.

I think we begin going technical details with live CD manufacturing, and I not want this. If you have question, feel free write me private e-mail and help. If you choose the patch method, I welcome do the need patch with you, but please write me what default settings you would like change.

Attila
