Re: [orca-list] Accessibility of PDF documents

Hi Aparna.
If it is not much to do with orca, then perhaps we must should be discussing this on another list such as vinux or blinux.
Coming to your questions.
I got the presentation all right, but formatting was not the same.
It did for example reduce the font size a bit and some centered title did not come up centered.
Else it was fine by all means.

Happy hacking.

Hi Krishnakant,

Thanks - did you get to try out your presentation last evening? Have you been able to get to work with the script - how did you find it? Any comments?

Regarding your query - we do not have commit right for Orca. But we plan to submit a patch both for poppler and Orca - not much changes in Orca though. We are generating the Html file for a PDF document, which gets deleted as soon as Orca is closed - that is the work that we have done on Orca. The remaining work is in Poppler.

Waiting to know your experience with the enhancement.

Best,
Aparna

Just a query?  do you have commit right to Orca?
I don't know if your patch is in for the current release of Orca.

Happy hacking.

So I would like to know which version of firefox have you used to read these html documents?
Happy hacking.

Dear all,

This is in continuation to our last communication related with Accessibility of Pdf document. As discussed last time, we have now completed the first prototype version of the same and we are making it available for your testing and valuable comments/feedback. As mentioned last time, we convert the PDF file into HTML format and open the same automatically in Firefox.

Enclosed with this email is the ReadMe file which explains the steps to download, install and run this enhancement. Please try out the same and give us your valuable feedback.

We have tested it at our end by different teams and have found that it works well in most cases. Some places where we feel work is required are as follows:
  • Sometimes Orca in not able to read header and footer of page
  • Some character combinations are displayed as garbage like 'ft', 'tt'
  • Content in table format is spoken by orca but it does not say the row and column reference. Means a user can not find out that orca is reading table content. (as orca does table reading in openoffice writer)
We are working on these. Waiting to hear more from all.
