Hi,
Exactly as you describe, I am trying to run via voice in a 64 karmic
machine.
It seems to owrk ok if I switch to espeak.
Thanks.

Hi
First, make sure default_driver is set properly in /etc/libao.conf. If using pulseaudio it should be set to
pulse, if using ALSA then it should be set to alsa. I believe Ubuntu by default sets it to alsa, which is a
bit odd considering they've essentially gotten fully behind Pulseaudio.
Secondly, I've noticed this when trying to use a 32-bit ibmtts synthesizer on a 64-bit Linux system. I have
all the libraries correct and installed in both their 32-bit and 64-bit forms, and yet 32-bit use of libao
via the sd_ibmtts module doesn't work. A fully 64-bit synthesizer and speech dispatcher module, however, is
able to use libao just fine. Are you trying to run a configuration similar to this? I haven't yet figured out
what the problem is in this case.

The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is
that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or
repair.
