I just die an aptitude update and aptitude upgrade
I think after my reinstall I didn't have the latest version of gnome-orca.
Now grade1 braille and the preferences work.
Thanks,
Jen!

Hi,
The file now reads as you say it should. I removed the ~/.orca directory
(this was not automatically removed when I purged Orca).
I think something really strange is going on. I have purged GDM,
gnome-orca and xserver-core. After reinstalling them an Orca key binding
(enter flat review) which I changed still uses my key binding (orca + y).
The pre-defined key to enter flat review did not work. If 'aptitude purge
gnome-orca' 'aptitude purge gdm' and 'aptitude purge xserver-xorg' doesn't
reinstall a totally clean orca what will?
Now braille doesn't work at all, and I can't access the preferences with
the button in the Orca window.
Please help.
Cheers,
Jen!

Hi Jen:
If you are comfortable with editing files, you can modify
~/.orca/user-settings.py. For now, just delete the two lines that
contain "enableContractedBraille" and "brailleContractionTable".
If you're not comfortable editing files, then just delete your entire
~/.orca directory and run orca -- it will act as though it is the
first time you've run it:
rm -rf ~/.orca

Hi. The link you provided has some useful stuff, so I'll look in to that
as
a way of getting grade 2 braille working. This doesn't explain why I now
can't access the Orca preferences.
How can I change the preferences back (to use grade 2 braille) if I
can't
access them through the orca interface? Is there a config file I can
change,
or are the preferences stored in a .py file? If so where is it located?
Cheers,
Jen!

Hi Jen:
The discussion we had on this list yesterday might help:

Hope this helps!

Hi. I am using Debian. When I select "enable grade 2 braille" in Orca
I
don't see any braille. I have lib Louis installed.
Also after I have done this I can't access the orca preferences. I've
tried removing (aptitude purge) gnome-orca, and GDM. Reinstalling them
doesn't work.
Why is this happenning? Also where is the config file for the
preferences, so I can manually set it back to use grade 1 braille?
Thanks in advance for any help/advice
Jen!
