Re: [orca-list] possibly OT: Oracle takeover

Hello,
I find this a great shame and sad news. Will: You have put so much work into orca and gnome accessibility, much more than I think Sun were employing you for. This certainly has made me reconsider my view of Oracle/Sun. I had been considering putting OpenSolaris to some serious use having seen how well accessibility was integrated, but how that will go now...

Now pointed at others on the list:
* Yes this is something which could affect us and we shouldn't just be silent if we have views. Also even if one of us says we will pass on our views, everyone with something to say should say it to show the scale of the concern. * Another thing we can do to ensure orca doesn't die is to put some work in where we can to help develop orca. This is even more the case now if we are loosing the support of a major company. Look where LSR is, we don't want orca to go that way as well.

By the way, if anyone is concerned that I may no longer lead Orca or GNOME Accessibility - it is a valid

I will be casting a broad net looking for employment and it may lead me away from this space. I regret that
I would have to leave since I am so passionate about what we do with GNOME Accessibility. We are a strong
community and I'm happy to be part of it. I am still planning on seeing GNOME 2.30 through, however, and
will do my best to help with GNOME 3.0 as much as I can.

If you are concerned, remember that you do have a voice. You can write to organizations about how my absence
in this space will have a direct impact on your access to the graphical desktop, the internet, employment,
etc. You can blog about it. Tweet about it. Write an open letter. Have your friends do the same. Let
people know that it needs to be staffed/funded appropriately to succeed.

If your voice is not heard, the assumption will be that you do not care.

Hi Igor:

I'm now working on Orca and leading the GNOME Accessibility project in my spare time.

Hi all. Just out of curiosity, with Oracle having bought Sun, is anything going
to change with regards to Orca development? Based on my preliminary research, it
seems that the MySQL entity will be left relatively intact and independent. Does
the same hold true in this case? Thanks.
