I suspect that the guilty is pulseaudio.

Has anyone noticed that the entire system gets very sluggish when using ESpeak in Fedora 12?

It could have been something I did. I simply installed ESpeak and Gnome-Speech-ESpeak and restarted Orca.
After selecting the ESpeak synthesizer things started to get very very slow.

I haven't even started troubleshooting why yet. I'll get around to that when I return from work this
evening. I was just wondering if anyone else had encountered this? Equally, has anyone installed Fedora
12 and ESpeak and have not had this problem?

The same goes for FC11. If it's caused by pulseaudio, I would ask how to
disable PA nowadays in Fedora?
