Re: [orca-list] instability of orca!

I have one user where it just says Welcome to Orca and does nothing
till you do something like alt-f2 -- see if that helps. Not sure why
this happens.

Oops, sorry to the list user I originally sent this to, instead of replying
to the thread on the list!

I am not using pulse audio. If orca would stop being so unstable I would be
able to tell you what I was using instead. When I go and see a sited friend
later today I will be able to do this but does any-one have any more
suggestions as to what this could be?

When I log in sometimes I can use the system but most times I get the
"welcome to Orca" message, then orca dies! Also if it is ok and goes it to
stand by I have to restart a bunch of times for Orca to work properly. I
know the rest of the distro is ok and runs well, because I have had someone
else check this.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Jen!

Be sure that you aren't running PulseAudio, which according to prior

posts to the list is responsible for this problem in many (but not

necessarily all) cases.

Yes. And perhaps if the problem continues generate a debug file!

Hello. Sorry I'm a bit of a noob to Linux and orca. I have Ubuntu 8.10 (the
most up to date version) installed on my net book (acer aspire 1). The
problem is that Orca keeps crashing. Sometimes it does this on start-up and
a restart or orca fixes the problem. Other times I have to restart the
system multiple times before Orca runs. Once it does run it tends to crash
after about 15 or 20 minutes.

Any advice on how I can run Orca more efficiently would be grateful. (Note I
have had sited friends look at the machine, and the operating system appears
to run fine after Orca has crashed).

Thanks

Jen!
