Be sure that you aren't running PulseAudio, which according to prior posts to
the list is responsible for this problem in many (but not necessarily all)
cases.

It tends to be related to the speech software (Gnome-speech,
Speech-dispatcher, etc.) and the audio system you are using rather than to
Orca itself - again judging by posts to the list, I've never experienced the
problem on any of my systems.
