I haven't heard anyone mention bloglines http://www.bloglines.com
I know several blind users who use that service with success.
However, they are all windows users so dunno how it does with Orca and
Firefox. It is a news agragator service.

If I understood the question well, he's refering to webbased applications,
and that means they are not on his machine.
And I fear there aren't good solutions.
So an alternative would be to use locally installed apps, such as
Firefox, Thunderbird for GUI and Snownews and Newsbeuter for the text
console.
