Re: [orca-list] Speaking Login Prompt

I have never been able to get accessible login to work. Does it
require a specific version of gdm? I am using gnome 2.26 and latest
version of orca, but my gdm is 2.24.1 because the newer versions try
to use the wrong console and I have to reboot the computer!

Hi Pete:

This is known as "Accessible Login" -- for some reason, it's tricky to
keep it working from release to release of GNOME. It typically works
well on OpenSolaris, but can even break there from time to time.

After you've enabled it, you can launch Orca at the login prompt as
described here:

http://library.gnome.org/users/gnome-access-guide/nightly/sysadmin-30.html.en

The typical operating procedure is this:

1) Enable a sound to be played when the login prompt appears
2) Type the keystroke (press and hold Ctrl+s for more than a second)
3) Login

If it doesn't work on your system, you need to log a bug with the OS
distribution since accessible login failure is often (not always) a
problem with accessibility integration from the OS distribution.

Is there any way to have Orca speak the login prompt?

Currently, Orca will start if I log in, but it would be nice if Orca
spoke prior to login.

Thanks.
