A sighted friend came over and left a few minutes ago. We managed to get
gnome up and me logged in and managed to get vlc to play sound files on
the computer. When we ran orca though orca wouldn't talk even after
preferences were set to have it talking after login. This is either an
orca problem or a problem in one of the accessibility support packages.
Since orca was written in python it didn't have
--print-installation-architecture in any of its configuration files though
several packages that run the linux gui environment do have that problem
in their configuration files. Everything xwindows uses for fonts has this
in their configuration files as do console-setup and console-data and
x11-common and xserver-xorg. The x11-common and xserver-xorg packages
haven't been updated since 2004 and the last maintainer's first name was
Robert. I hit a key combination accidentally while working with those
packages and found that out.
