I don't recall having this so much while typing in edit boxes or at
the terminal but I do notice a significant problem while in Firefox
and arrowing up and down particularly inside of table columns. I am
forced to hear all the items I tried to skip over by rapid presses of
downarrow. I would think if I press down arrow say ten times rapidly
that the rapid presses should interrupt speech and let me hear only
the final entry I rest on. Instead, I have to sit through and listen
to all ten items I tried to skip. This is particularly noticable with
table navigation; use the alt-shift-down arrow to read down a column
and do it real fast. I also notice this to alesser extent when using
down arrow through a vertical list in the Nautilus file browser.

Hi all,
I am using gnome-speech 0.4.21, espeak 1.39, and portaudio 19, and speech
does not interrupt as I type, and pressing ctrl does not result in speech
being silenced. This results in my system coming to a stand-still while
waiting for speech if I type more than a few keys. Does anyone know what
could be going on? I have a vague recollection of this perhaps being
discussed on the list a while ago, but I'm not certain. I am able to
silence speech in other contexts.
Thanks,
