Here's how I might go about interpreting your invoice...

These lines in the invoice lead me to believe it has Ubuntu 8.04 
pre-installed on it:

C495J  1 Module,Software,Client UBT8.04+,Inspiron,Factory Install
P895H  1 Module,Software,Media UBUNTU8.04+,Linux

The second hit of a Google for "ubuntu 8.04 gnome version" yields this text:

"runs exchange 2007 from Ubuntu 8.04/Gnome version 2.22.1, ... desperate 
for a solution, if unable to help referrals would be highly ... 
researched countless ..."

That leads me to believe it will have GNOME 2.22.1 or maybe some more 
recent release of GNOME 2.22.x.  That's a little old, but still kind of 
workable.

In any case, I hope your new Dell works out for you.  A number of people 
seem to reported success with it and Orca.

PS - minor rant, but mostly just an excuse to post a link to what I 
think is a pretty funny video from the Onion: What I personally might 
have done prior to plunking down my hard earned money would have been to 
speak with a Dell sales representative and asked them what I was 
spending my money on.  And, I would have researched the heck out it 
*before* making the final purchase.  But then again, I tend to be the 
opposite of the customer interviewed in this Onion video (beware -- it's 
a spoof and contains much foul language):
