I would love to switch over to debian as well but it is more of an
attitude and motivation problem than any thing else for not having
proper accessibility infrastructure in Debian.
There is very good accessibility infrrastructure in Debian, and an active
mailing list to discuss accessibility issues.
For those who are concerned about Gnome 2.24 not being in Debian Unstable, I
would respectfully suggest paying attention to what is happening in Debian
development at the moment: they are preparing for a release, currently
scheduled for 14 February, as a result of which, Unstable is in feature freeze
at the moment. New versions of packages are being placed in the Experimental
repository.
After the release, you'll see a lot of updates arriving in Unstable very
quickly, and I'm confident that Gnome 2.24 won't be far behind.
