Re: [orca-list] FileZilla

Hi Steve:

The GNOME Accessibility Developer's Guide contains a fair amount of information: http://library.gnome.org/devel/accessibility-devel-guide/nightly/

We should try to work with it and then work to update it as people have questions.

Hi Steve,

Accessibility is already built-in if you use GTK widgets. The problem
is the wx widgets toolkit which doesn't implement the necesary
accessibility support on Linux. The solution is to push wx widgets
developers to take accessibility seriously. If they don't know people
care, they don't have motivation...

My problem with this sort of advicacy is when we press a developer to
"make their application or toolkit more accessible," said developer is
most likely going to ask "Well, what do you want us to do about it?"
and frankly, I really don't know what to tell them. It ends up being
an empty request. I think from what I've seen in many places is the
methods of "making an application to be accessible" are not clearly
outlined so even the most seasoned developer doesn't know what to do.

Oh Willie, I'm experienced as a programmer so could consider digging
into those programs to see what might be done but again like I said
above, knowing where to begin or where to suggest is a challenge at
best.

My immediate plans are to teach myself Python as that is the scripting
language for Orca; maybe I can get started there and work up to bigger
and better things.
