I believe it was done intentionally, this topic has come up in the past 
and the decision was made to keep it as it is. While I personally feel 
the natural situation would be for replies to go to the list, I think it 
was done to try and prevent too much of that extra chatter you get in 
replies on list (eg. the "How are you going Jo, not heard you about for 
some time..." type of reply). If this is wrong please correct me.

In addition to this I will remind people here, this list is the orca 
list, orca is the common factor between us and in the past off topic 
things have been a topic in itself. This is one of the lists with the 
greatest keep to topic theme I have found. May be this reply to sender 
is just another part of that.
