Hi, If you are using the very awesome piece of software known as speech-dispatcher, you can easily do this by editing your speechd.conf file. If you are using a user configuration it is located in: ~/.speech-dispatcher/conf/speechd.conf if it is a system wide configuration, it is in: /etc/speech-dispatcher/speechd.conf Anyway, change the DefaultLanguage to your desired language plus your prefered varient. example: DefaultLanguage en-us+klatt2 In Orca's preferences, set the synthesizer to default synthesizer. When you apply the changes you should be all set with your chosen varient. HTH Storm My email address is: jkenn337 gmail com . www.satogo.com Get klango at www.klango.net it's free! I did compile the latest development version of espeak, but I don't see any way to specify +klatt in the synth selections box. Thanks much in advance for the help. Hi, In future versions of Ubuntu with orca go to: http://espeak.sourceforge.net/test/latest.html Get the latest espeak, use that since it will always have the best pronunciation. also instead of using the default variant, why not use either the klatt variant, klatt2, or klatt3? like: en-us+klatt2 this means when I install it in windows speak using american english and use the klatt2 variant . klatt voices make espeak sound a lot more like eloquence.
