First of all can I say my comments regarding your message being off
topic were not meant to be hostile, but rather to help you report
issues to the correct place and possibly get the best support. I think
sometimes the linux community is misunderstood when saying about using
the correct mailing lists, and this may partly be due to newcomers not
being familiar with the idea of different distributions which doesn't
exist in the same way in the windows world and from what I understand
is also not present in the Mac world. Please remember linux is not
ubuntu, there are many other distributions of linux (debian, slackware,
opensuse, fedora, etc) and other unix systems such as opensolaris
(which is not a linux distribution) all may include orca. Anyway just to highlight why your message in my mind is not on topic for orca and is an ubuntu issue. You were trying to use an ubuntu CD but you were unable to get useable speech coming out. A live CD is a fixed configuration and if it doesn't work as the distributor (ubuntu in this case) describes it should then they better know they have produced something which doesn't work as they describe. The problem may be a bug with the software (in which case the distributor should file a report upstream or may point you to the developer of that software) or it may be an issue with how the distribution has been put together or it may be an issue with the documentation not being clear. From the replies to your message it sounds like it was an issue with how ubuntu intergrate speech output with pulseaudio, and as it is an issue with how they configured their live CD it requires an ubuntu developer to correct this. Ubuntu developers are best contacted through the ubuntu community support systems. As far as I know this issue doesn't affect other linux distributions and if it did the various distributions may create different work arounds. Sometimes it can be hard to find out if an issue is a distribution issue or a bug with the actual software. I felt you had identified it as possibly being an ubuntu issue as you used the phrase "Is this a known problem with the ubuntu 9.04 live cd?", who would know better about known ubuntu issues other than the ubuntu community? This list is for orca, and I am interested in orca so that is why I joined this list. As a GRML user I don't really want to hear all the latest accessibility issues of ubuntu (if I did I would join the appropriate ubuntu list). Likewise as an ubuntu user I am sure you don't want to hear all the latest accessibility issues of GRML/fedora/slackware/gentoo/(fill in what ever linux distribution takes your fancy). Hope that clarifies my comment about keeping to the topic and explains why people give these types of responses. It can take time to get used to linux and the linux community, but once you've got into it it is good. Michael Whapples On 24/04/09 20:32, Scott Rutkowski wrote:
