Just to clarify, I think Erik and David are discussion related, but
separate things:
1) Erik is saying that even if you cannot see something on the screen
because a dialog is too large, you can still tab to the object and Orca
will still present it in speech and braille.
2) David is saying that the Orca preferences dialog is too large for the
small screen. So, a sighted user needs to be able to move the window
around (e.g., Alt+F7 and then the arrow keys) to see the areas of the
window off the screen.

And that all makes perfect sense to me - except in this case that isn't
what happens - its as if the orca GUI is a fixed size rather than
relative to the screen - slightly bizarre and Im sure someone techie can
explain it - but that is what happens !

Hi,
OK, something here doesn't make any sense to me. But maybe its just me.
Normally, a screen's physical size has nothing to do with what
information
the video card outputs. I have run headless machines for years--in
fact,
my Sun Ultra 2 is such a device. I do not have any problems with
terminal sessions, though they are remote since the machine in question
does not have any local keyboard or display. So kindly, perhaps one of
you here could explain what's going on?

Might be some what off topic, But try out acer aspire 1 series.
It comes with 1 gb ram and 120 gb hdd.
it is an atom processor based laptop and i have tryed orca with ubuntu
netbook remix.
By the way I think the asus eeepc has a keyboard too small for
working.
I too had the preferences dialog issue some time back. But the acer
aspire1 is slightly bigger than the netbook eeepc of asus so may be
the preferences not appearing on the screen might be sorted out.
happy hacking.

Hi their.
As you probably know, I'm considering purchasing an EEE PC for use
with
Linux--doesn't have to be Ubuntu though. Since I obviously can't
see the
screen, will that be a issue for me? I was under the impression
that the
original poster was trying to manipulate the Orca GUI with the touch
pad or
whatever pointing device the EEE PC comes wth.

Hi David:
Yech. Unfortunately, Orca's preferences GUI is just too big. You
should
be
able to move it around, however, by pressing Alt+F7 and then using
the
arrow
keys.

We've successfully installed Orca onto a Ubuntu based eeePC and
certainly on
mains power it runs extremely well with some hesitancy on battery
power.
But
one problem appears to be that the Orca preferences screen
doesn't
resize
when the machine starts up, which means that in order to set
preferences
and
select options one needs to plug the umpc into a full monitor to
view
all
the tabs and buttons
Any ideas ?
