Yes, i am.
If I press ctrl+alt+backspace orca asks me which synthesizer I want to run.
You do not need wait for the login drum sound to type the login and the
password.

gnome-about says I'm running 2.24.0.
When I try and logout, the logout window does not speak. So, I pressed alt+l
which did in deed log me off.
However, after orca went away, it came back again running eSpeak this time,
and said:
entering orca setup.
... then asked me which synthesizer I wanted to run (1 for eSPeak, 2 for
IBM) ...
After this announcement, there was a fairly long pause, then I heard the
login drum sound.
Anyone else experience this behavior? Very strange.

Hey Rich:
"gnome-about --version" should do the trick.

This behaviour has been the same for a couple of weeks now. Whenever I
log into Gnome, it takes Orca about a minute or more to say "Welcome to
Orca." Then, it does not work on the desktop. It does work in
gnome-terminal. It starts to speak when I open the terminal. When I
close the terminal, it says "goodbye" and stops speaking. This started
after a significant number of my Gnome components were updated to 2.24
versions. I still think that my gnome-desktop base is at 2.22. I know
of at least one other person who is experiencing this issue. Does any
No.
Make sure you have all gnome updates installed.
