I left it for almost 2 hours, and the computer never restarted. I thought there might be a problem with the
cd, but I'm
able to install by booting from cd and installing Ubuntu, and everything works as it should. The problem is,
my friend
wants it installed from inside windows for some reason. I explained to him, that if he lets me install from
cd, he can
still boot into windows, but for some reason, he's very insistant that it be done through windows. Does
anyone have any
other ideas I can try? Could it be a faulty cd, even though I can boot from it, and install from cd? I'm
just running
out of things to try. Should the computer restart automatically, or is there some prompt that comes up?
When I restart
like I'm told to, Orca says checking the installation, and if I come back in a couple of hours, there is no
speech, and
I manually have to shut the computer down. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
Earle

Leave the install alone when it says checking the installation. Wubi is
verifying that everything is installed correctly. The system will restart
it self after awhile and then you can log in. It takes about half an hour
to complete.

Subject: [orca-list] Installing Ubuntu 8.04 From Inside Windows
I have a friend that wants to install Ubuntu 8.04 from inside windows. I
have never done this, but I told him I could
help him. When I installed it on my own system, I just booted the live
CD, and installed that way.
I managed to install from inside Windows, and everything seems to go fine.
However, when I reboot his system as
prompted, and boot into Ubuntu, Orca comes on and says checking install,
and nothing seems to happen after that. We
waited for around 15 minutes, and nothing seemed to happen. I tried
rebooting, but when I boot into Ubuntu, Orca
doesn't even come up now. I've also uninstalled Ubuntu from inside
windows, and then reinstalled, and had the same
problem. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
I forgot to mention as well, that when I try to reboot into Ubuntu after
getting the whole checking install message, I
don't even get the sound you are supposed to get, where you can enter your
name and password.
