Now I have another sound problem -- I cannot play any sound from my
CD. If I use a console player, such as cdcd, it thinks it is playing,
but I don't hear anything -- if I try to use something in Gnome,
first it says "location cannot be mounted" or some such, but I did
notice that the command to play the CD, has device %d, but where does
the %d come from and how can I make sure its the correct device? I
have one of those Soundblaster emu10k1 sound cards, but I am not sure
why its not playing cds.
Thanks for any bright ideas on this one.

Yep, that did the trick -- I had checked to see if speech dispatcher
was running, but I had neverheard of spd-say, so did not test it that
way -- thanks a lot.
Glad to hear you solved the problem. Have a nice day, Tomas

Your life is like a penny. You're going to lose it. The question is:
How do
you spend it?
