It seems to be working now.  I really don't think I've done anything different than all the other times I 
tried to get 
it working, but it's working now.  Maybe I forgot a step along the way, but I don't see how, since I tried so 
many times 
to get it working.   Oh well, at least it works.  lol

just a quick note, in my setup, commenting the defaults_reset line wasn't
necessary. ubuntu 8.04 and orca that comes with it.
