Re: [orca-list] how to use a newly installed synth with orca

ok, when I did the

sudo apt-get install gnome-speech-swift

it said the pkg could not be found.

I'll send my sources.list file in the next post so you all can see what repositories I have enabled.

Chris.

Hi. YOu will need to register the voice before you can use it with ORca. If you don't the nag message will occur so often the voice won't be usable.
After you have registered it: you can get it working in ORca by typing

sudo apt-get install gnome-speech-swift

If you get an error with the apt-get command, post the error and we can provide more instructions.
You will need to restart ORca after this before Orca will see it.
I know this info is documented somewhere, but I don't have the URL handy.

     Hello all,

First let me say that I like ubuntu very much. I'm comeing streight
from windows and it still seems to work well. I just downloaded a
cepstral voice from there site and installed it. I was wondering how to
set it up so that orca can use it? It doesn't seemed to be
automatically detected like in windows in sapi. What are the steps
involved in getting it working with orca and gnome speech? Thanks,

Mike
