Thanks for reporting this.  Definitely looks like a bug.  I just entered
a bug and checked in a patch to trunk:

If you can try out trunk, please do and add a comment to the bug.  If it
works fine for you, I can work on a patch for GNOME 2.22.3, which comes
out in a week and a half.
