Re: [orca-list] OT, any command for turning off monitor display?

Hi Janina,

I am also using a thinkpad x61s, and xbacklight works fine for me.
(running ubuntu).

You might also be intrested to check out tp_smapi found here:

Works great for me, can turn off bluetooth when i dont need it, and also
use it to regulate the charging of the battery. I have mine set to
charge up to 85% for every day use (on the 8 cell battery), and when im
going on a long journey i change it up to 100%.

I've had this battery for almost 8 months and i can still charge it to
full capacity when i stricktly need to.

A truely delightful laptop, so i hope you get to use all its features.

Powertop is another very useful tool, shows which processes are taking
most power, and gives hints on how to minimize power consumtion.

That's the underlying problem. So much of this kind of utility is
specific to the manufacturer, and eve to the model within that
manufacturer's line.

I have long used Thinkpads. Recently, I was able to cycle my display off
using FN+F7 or a Thinkpad specific utility. With my latest X61s, I don't
seem to be able to do this. Haven't yet had opportunity to review the
manual for some other way.

PS: When you do get this working, it really does help battery life.
There aren't many perquisites to blindness, but this can definitely be
one of them.

FYI: I tried xbacklight on Fedora--installs OK. But Thinkpad won't
accept it's commands. Oh, well, back to rtfm.

Janina
