Which version of Ubuntu are you running? If you are testing Hardy, you
most likely won't hear the login sound, since it is using pulseaudio
which runs as the logged-in user and the login sound is expecting a
running esd. Probably an alternative should be developed for the login
sound so that it can once again be heard. If you are running Gutsy or an
earlier version of Ubuntu, be sure it has all the latest updates. There
was a problem with the esd on earlier versions of Gutsy that kept it
from playing system sounds.
