I think you will find there are many slightly annoying bugs with
evolution, and in some ways this you describe is hardly anything. I
think what you describe is just the way it should be done, except you
will find if there is an attachment to the message then you don't need
to cursor right.
How much of this might be solveable with scripts? Would it for example
be possible to get the message body to get focus upon a key press? Would
that help you Garrett?
Thunderbird looks like it might have promise, but at the moment it is
still very much in development. Also Orca could do with some better
scripting (possibly) for thunderbird as well.

have it set. However, getting from the message headers to the body is
currently a very clunky process. I have to arrow down to where Orca says
"table grayed" and then right arrow a fiew times. It gets worse when I
delete messages, then I have to control-tab to the reply button and tab
back to where the "from" box is.
Am I missing something here? Is there any way this process can be
expedighted?
