Yeah, I never had much luck with 'o' and shift "o" either.  That has
something to do with large objects but I don't know what denotes a
"large object.".  Yes, the x command that looks for next different
text or non link text (in Window-Eyes) would be a welcome addition but
I think some of these additional keystrokes could be added without
building a virtual buffer and isolating the real picture from the
screen reader user.

I use Both Window-Eyes and Orca and actually, I think I like the Orca
aproach a lot better.
