[orca-list] fixing modules for speech-dispatcher

how do i fix the sound modules for speech-dispatcher?
i tried sudo apt-get install alsa but all i got was that the 
package was up-to date so i am still no nearer to resolving my 
orca and speech-dispatcher problem.
i even tried reconfiguhing the sound drivers using the gnome 
preferences sound menu in ubuntu but still no joy when i changed 
the setting from autoaudio or whatever it is by default.
