Hello Michael, does your problem persist?  Did you try running "sudo
speech-dispatcher"?  What was the result?  You can also check the logs
(in /var/log/speech-dispatcher).  There must be something wrong with
your installation.  Eg. wrong permissions or no output modules
installed/working.  Let us know if you find something.  Best regards, Tomas.
