Yeah that got all worked out. I'm long past that now. Thanks anyway. I
haven't used patch a whole lot so forgot about the various ways one could
invoke it. I did realize a single patch could update multiple files however
and that's why I thought one could just specify the input file name without
any special parameters or redirection.

Hi,
If you want to pass the file name to patch, rather than redirecting
STDIN, you can use the -i option.

Well I figured out my problem with my first patching attempt. I stuck
a less than sign (<) infront of the file and it patched immediately.
I forgot patch uses stdin. Though I thought you could specify a file
name strait away.
My other problem now is I tried applying the second patch; that is,
the third on the list and 3 hunks out of 7 failed. Was I only
supposed to apply the last one?
I think I will start over with this.
