Re: [orca-list] GParted Live CD with Orca?

The program that allows this is called Wubi I think.  I used it for a while, a month, and then installed Ubuntu on the whole computer after a virus took down my windows installation.  While using Wubi, the Windows installation program for Ubuntu, I had no problems what so ever.  Everything worked fine.  I read that the computer would be a bit slower with Ubuntu installed in this way and that hybornate and suspend would not work, but I never use those anyway, so that was no big deal.  It was just a tiny bit slower, but not very noticeable.  I am still kind of new myself, have been using Ubuntu for about 6 months now, but I think you will be ok with it installed like that.  One note though, if you are using outlook express, you should install Thunderbird in windows iand import your mail settings to it.  This way, you can transport your messages and settings to thunderbird or evolution in UBuntu.  This is one thing I didn't do, and now I have a lot of valuable messages stored in absolutely useless dbx files.
You can find instructions to move messages from thunderbird on windows to thunderbird in Ubuntu easily on Google.

Hey folks,
I am new to the list, and I just started using Orca and Ubuntu as well.
Demetry I don't know how this compares to a separate partition, but I chose
to install Ubuntu within Windows. I believe it was the second option. What
ends up happening is Ubuntu creates a directory in the root of your Windows
partition called (Ubuntu). It also gives you a boot menu at start up and so
far all seems well.
Question for the long time users: is this OK to do, or would it have been
better to resize my Windows partition and install Ubuntu in its own
partition? It was very easy to install this way because it was just like a
typical Windows install with Jaws speaking through out.
Should I redo my install? Are there any real disadvantages?
Looking forward to using Ubuntu and Orca,
Vinny
