Yes, but the command line switches eg. -b -d etc may be easier to get it 
working, once you know all the info and you know it works then do as Jason 
said and use /etc/brltty.conf
(When I say info I mean the correct arguments for the switches, eg. your 
braille display code and device. (port))

I think the comments were pretty good in there... So it should be fairly 
straight-forward. Of course if you have problems feel free to ask, 
probably best on the brltty mailing list...

Ok, probably a stupid question, but how do you check the kernel logs?
And are all logs and system logs in
/var/log?
