I find that firefox doesn't respond very quickly to a key press. Eg. tab,

Is this because I only have a 800 mhz machine with 256 mb ram or because
orca has problems?
It is because you have insufficient RAM and a slow CPU in that machine.
OK, I have another box... I have a laptop set up and ready to go with 512
mb ram and 1.8 ghz cpu... Is that enough?
Or what is a very good machine to run gnome under?
It's time for a hardware upgrade. Seriously, trying to run Gnome, Orca and
Firefox with 256mb RAM isn't going to work reliably.
No, your right... I just bought this box for $30 and am waiting before I
install linux (dual boot it) on my good machine with 1 gb of ram since I'm
not sure if this will void the worrenty...
I know how to set up a dual boot system and I'm fairly confident with
linux so I'm just worried about the worrenty as I said...
Is 1 gb ram and dual core 2.1 ghz enough?
What kind of responsiveness can I expect? As good as JAWS for windows
provides with firefox?
Thanks,
