Well, if it is really that bad, maybe I should give up on this game.
I like the appearance and it was pretty slick and I do like the
calendar and contacts stuff; like outlook but it sure isn't a must. I
was basically trying to see how many XWindows or GNOME apps I could
really try out from an a11y point of view. But with these performance
issues with evolution, I think it will be time to hang it up. I do
like mutt and all but you know. Hmmm, anyone know how it is with news
groups?
I think I would still like to file a bug concerning the dialogs that
seem to disappear from focus if you alt tab away from them. To me,
that is a serious problem, whoever it belongs to.
I've heard about Thunderbird and that might show promise; however, the
tree table proglem in gecko is severely broken just now. That affects
Thunderbird and Firefox. Try organizing bookmarks some time and
you'll see what I mean.

Evolution seems to work ok with local folders and it did seem to work

These problems could at least in part be due to slowness and bugs in
Evolution. Most comments that I have read about Evolution in other fora
suggest using Mutt, Thunderbird, Claws-mail, Gnus (for Emacs) or other
alternatives instead, unless you require compatibility with a Microsoft
Exchange server.
