I probably can do some stuff to help with contracted braille here. I
have previously used liblouis from within python programs via the ctypes
module, and this worked fine. One possible problem was that liblouis
uses unicode 16 for characters, and while python on most systems use
unicode 16 for its unicode, I have known it to be installed (I think it
was on gentoo) with unicode 32, so some conversion needed to be done
there (along with always trying to identify whether python is using
unicode 16 or unicode 32.

On the other hand, I have started some work on a braille translator of
my own written in python, one advantage being that it will get rid of
this unicode difficulty, and should generally be more portable. I
believe the software part of it is working well, but there is limited
tables for it as it uses a different system to liblouis tables.
Currently I have not put this in the public domain as I haven't decided
on a license for it, I plan to use it for another project of mine (where
I used to use liblouis) which is under the RPL, but I want to make this
braille translator part more free while still being suitably licensed
for inclusion in the RPL project (GPL won't do this as I understand, may
need to release it as a python type license).
