I've not seen this festival crash before. :-( This may be related to
the fact that you are on amd64 with the debian amd64 etch. Do you have
a different machine or different OS distribution that you can try?

Festival driver finalized.
If you're not getting any messages, then test-speech might be connecting
to a different synthesis driver.
I try it again and the following happens when I start the test-speech:

Segmentation fault
