HI everybody.
Even me, I experienced unpredictable speech dispatcher crashes.
Here's my configuration:
- ubuntu Gutsy, regularly updated;
- gnome-orca 2.20.0.1;
- speech dispatcher 0.6.5rc1 downloaded from ppa.launchpad...;
- Espeak, the last version available with the Ubuntu repositories.
Now thathere's what I did and what happened:
- i installed speech dispatcher, python-speechd and sound-icons, with
all the other necessary packages, indicated by apt-get;
- i gave the spd-say "ciao" command in a text terminal window and
heared "ciao" from the speakers;
- i ran Orca and, in the preferences dialog box, i found and selected
speech dispatcher as synthesis, then selecting espeak as the speech
synthesizer (the default) and the italian voice;
- i pressed the apply button and started using my pc with this new settings.
After a few minutes of use, as noted by others in this list, the hard
disk made some noise and my pc stopped talking; i loged out and in
again, but i could only use Orca with Braille.
So I opened a text terminal and wrote:
spd-say "ciao"
obtaining an error message like this:
client: speech dispatcher: connection refused
or something like that.
I restarted Orca some way (can't remember how), opened the
preferences dialog box and saw that it was impossible to choose
speech dispatcher as synthesis system.
All these events happened more than one time.
Sorry for my english not so perfect and sorry if I cannot be precise
at the moment, cause i'm under Windows now, as you can see.
Do you think I can solve my problem?
Thank you for your atention and see you soon.
Fabrizio.
