Let us be crystal clear about this. Oss has been deprecated since the
introduction of the 2.6 Linux kernel. Our problem is that the tools we
as blind users depend on haven't seen fit to do the work required to
stop using oss. 


Let me say it one other way, the decision has already been made. It's
finished. Alsa is in, oss is out. Has been that way for almost two
years--if not longer. The rest is follow-up.
