Yes I have also noticed this with other terminal applications. It 
is a pain when attempting to read a website and having that app 
interrupt and talk over what you are trying to listen to. I would 
classify this as a major bug as well as a major pita!

It seems the only way to keep this from happening is to give another
terminal focus.  If you are trying to use Nautilus, Firefox, totem,
gaim, or any app that isn't a terminal you will hear text sent to the
terminal.

This is happening on a box running the latest Ubuntu Edgy.
